I have been in Private Practice in New York City since 1992. I have been on the faculty at the Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology and Postgraduate Center for Mental health. I was trained in Interpersonal Psychoanalysis at the William Alanson White Institute, and I have been a Supervisor of Psychotherapy there for twenty five years. I am on the faculty in the Division One Training Program at The William Alanson White Institute. I believe that my personal way of working has been largely shaped by my belief in the dictum that "we are all much more alike than otherwise." I see all of the problems in living that people experience from a developmental perspective, and I use the term developmental trauma to describe these problems. However, that term is really just another way of saying that all problems in living were created in a relationship. I do believe that because all of our problems were developed in a relationship, that means that they can only be healed in one. I do not believe it is possible to heal on our own, and so the purpose of Psychoanalytic work is to create a new kind of relationship experience. The process of creating a new relationship experience is what heals trauma, and solves our problems in living.
